Newsweek's Andy Borowitz reported on October 1st that God's existence had been proven by Googling™ Him. At the time, God had 59,900,000 results in Google™, resulting in joyful proclamations from a theologian:
“To those doubters out there who still don’t believe that God exists, I have just one piece of advice: Google™ Him,” said Dr. George Darlington of the University of Minnesota Divinity School.
In contrast with the 59 million sites found for God, a Google™ for Satan turned up only 3 million sites, suggesting that God is much more powerful than Satan, as theologians have long argued.
In a positive development, however, “good” received 178 million search results while “evil” snagged only 17 million.
Today's results are troubling. While Satan still can't hold a candle to God in absolute numbers, the God Index™ has dropped by 13,000,000 to 46,900,000. And while Good showed surprising strength with a 60% increase, Satan’s increase was greater than God’s decline by four points. Not surprisingly, Evil also increased by four percentage points more than Good. Here’s the breakdown between October 1 and today:
God...........59,900,000...........46,900,000...........↓22%
Satan..... ....3,000,000....... ....3,790,000...........↑26%
Good........178,000,000..........285,000,000...........↑60%
Evil....... ....17,000,000.......... .27,900,000...........↑64%
Since Dr. Darlington's only drew a paltry 311 results from Google™ today, he was not consulted on the meaning of the precipitous drop in God's results. We are left to say "only God knows."
